My intention is to create a series of photographs that resemble sumi (ink wash) paintings. The organic way moss spreads across the concrete surface is very similar to ink seeping through wet paper. My mother is a gifted traditional Chinese sumi painter, as was her mother. The photographs were taken at the Fremont Bridge in Seattle.
I feel this photographic series is best accompanied by a poem, Deer Enclosure by Wang Wei.

Deer Enclosure by Wang Wei
The empty mountains show no trace of man.
Yet there are echoes of human voices.
Bright sun is sending beams penetrating the deep forest.
Shining on the green moss in the dark corner.
