Made by David White Company from 1947-71. It was the most popular 35mm stereo camera ever. I bought it from a friend’s father’s estate. It is built like a tank (heavy) and is quirky. I have already shot three rolls (an old truck yard in Sprague WA, Italy, and a wedding in San Francisco). At first glance it has three lenses: the middle is the viewfinder, and the other two are the taking lenses, hence in stereo. The lenses are spaced to match spacing of the human eyes. There will be two offset square negatives. I print them separately and then place them side by side, noting the left and right views, and view the images with a stereoscope or viewer. So it is not easy to share the experience on social media. Stereo images are still in use in forestry management, the study of insects, and spy satellite photos. Viewing stereo photos was a very popular parlor entertainment in the late 1800’s. When I was growing up we had the View Master and various photo discs. I remember one of the wheels has images of the Yellowstone National Park. I am planning shoot a roll of color film later. The production process for color stereo images will be very different from black and white images.
