This project is my way to honor this beautiful space and its creative and nurturing energy. It is an old school, the John B Allen Elementary, and now the heart and soul of the Phinney Ridge/Greenwood area where I live. It is the community center operated by the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA). My wife has been a member for over 25 years. We regularly participate in activities, like the annual meeting with breakfast, home design/build show, holiday craft fair, and farmers market. Besides membership, we are frequent donors to PNA’s various appeals because we believe in the values and the mission of PNA. It is a jewel in Seattle. I am especially fond of the old wooden interior of the main building because I am living in a bungalow from the same era that still has the original woodwork. I cannot find any old wooden structures in Hong Kong, my birthplace. They were destroyed in the name of progress. The texture on an old worn wood surface fascinates me. I wonder about all the people that have touched them before me.
