I borrow the title, “After a Dream”, from a French song by Gabriel Fauré. The song describes a romantic flight with a lover, away from earth and towards the light. Upon awakening, the dreamer longs to return to the mysterious night and the illusion of his dream. Walking in Paris, the City of Light, became the counterpoint to darkness I was feeling in September of 2016. Experiencing the spirit of Paris became a form of self-medication against the pain of abandonment. Freezing time with an image gave me the sense of permanence, that things cherished will not be lost. The printing technique used to print this body of work was an idea that came to me in a dream when I was learning the Lith printing process recently.
